by Mike the Mentor
Leadership, Coaching, Mentoring, Sustainability

November 2009
email: mike@mikethementor.co.uk
Web: http://www.mikethementor.co.uk

This has been the first issue of the newsletter for some time - and I've taken the opportunity of the break to change the format. From now on I will publish straight to the Mike the Mentor website - you can access the new material though the links below. This will give me greater flexibility and in future I will send out notifications when new material is posted to the website.

I have also reorganised material on the website into the following areas:

  • general coaching - transformational coaching, the coach as shaman, mentoring and coaching, etc
  • coaching models - Inner Game, CLEAR, AQAL, 7-Eyed, Sentic States, etc
  • sustainability - 7 levels of corporate sustainability, creating sustainable value, etc
  • change - competing commitments, core qualities, stages of change, etc
  • leadership - 7 transformations of leadership, inspirational leadership, integral leadership, etc
  • self management - limitation celebration, resilience, playing to our strengths, etc
  • articles - on the Jericho Change model, values, coaching supervision etc
  • inspiring stories - Elliot Coleman's Gift, The Prince and the Magician, etc
All in all over a 100 models, ideas, frameworks, opinions and stories!

Happy reading!

New on the website

Recent additions to the website include:

  • Authentic Leadership Communication: "The essence of leadership is being able to see what is needed, and then inspiring others to take action to effect change. Key to successful leadership is authentic leadership communication." This article summarises Terry Pearce's approach to constructing a complete message platform for change which I've mapped onto the Jericho Model.

  • Sustainability Coaching: "Organisations are increasingly recognising the opportunities for competitive advantage the move to sustainability offers in terms of reducing costs and risks; developing new revenue streams and protecting existing ones; enhancing brand; retaining/attracting staff; and maintaining their licence to operate. Building sustainable organisations requires considerable organisational change. But it also puts particular demands on leaders who have to embrace new ways of seeing and thinking, let go of outdated mindsets, develop a sustainability vision, and develop new ways of leading. ..."

Finding the Still Point

ImageI have featured Simon Walker's work in the newsletter before (see Leadership Formation: The Undefended Leader). His latest book is Finding the Still Point.

"This book was birthed out of a year of letters, written weekly to a practice of busy executives, between 2007-8. Their original aim was to remind the readers of the lessons learned during the work on leadership we had been undertaking together. Providing a sage reflection on the conditions of modern work and life, these stories, poems and observations offer a humane and restorative counterpoint for any seeking a sense of equilibrium in the frenetic and anxious times in which we live."
